Most poker books are written by well-known poker professionals, but this lies outside the norm. Lee Jones works as a computer programmer and by no means claims to be a poker professional. However, this book proves handy to many budding poker players because it focuses on low-stakes poker. Most books written by professionals are geared toward high-limit playing.

Most new to the game, and playing low-limit, will play too many hands or won’t know when to fold. “Winning Low-Limit Hold’em” helps poker newbies learn how to be smart with money and get the most out of bets. Low-limit poker includes $1-4 or $3-6.  

Jones’ book teaches how to value your cards in relation to those on the board. It also teaches you enough to win, but doesn’t delve too much into probability and pot odds. “Winning Low-Limit Hold’em” is a great book to begin your poker education, but don’t stop there.
