Phil Gordon is a multimillionaire from the dot.com era, as well as a former National Merit Scholar. He’s from Texas, but now lives in South Lake Tahoe, Nevada and began playing poker as a boy. He played against his beloved Aunt Lib for pennies at the tender age of seven. After graduating with a bachelor of science in computer science from Georgia Tech, he joined a computer software company in Santa Cruz and began playing poker in his spare time. Gordon began by playing in low-limit games, but he grew into playing high-stakes games and many tournaments. During a final table of a WPT tournament, his Aunt Lib died of cancer. Gordon then vowed to donate and raise funds for the Cancer Research and Prevention Foundation. Gordon has since developed his own non-profit, Put a Bad Beat on Cancer, and urges his fellow players to donate one percent of their winnings. Gordon won two WPT tournaments, “San Jose’s Bay 101 Shooting Bar” and “Aruba Poker Classic.” His total winnings for the tournaments are $610,000
