Known as “The Professor,” Howard Lederer is one of the most feared and respected poker players around. Lederer is the son of a college professor, the brother of famous poker player Annie Duke, who he taught to play poker and the husband to the manager of the Bellagio’s poker room. Lederer’s other sister is a notable poet. Prior to becoming a great poker player, Lederer was a distinguished chess player. While attending classes at ColumbiaUniversity in New York City, Lederer played in the top chess clubs in the City. He then found the underground poker rooms and soon became successful. In 1994 he moved to Las Vegas and began playing poker professionally. He won a World Championship bracelet in 2001. Lederer won two WPT events: “PartyPoker Million” and the “World Poker Finals.” He also placed third in the “WPT Battle of Champions” and won $614,250 for the three event finishes.
